Hello!

So, I’m up and running on the webternets. As I said on the homepage, this site will be a portfolio, a blog and a place for me to test out ideas and suchlike.

I’ll mainly talk about web design and development stuff on my blog, but I suspect other topics may come up as and when the inspiration arises.

Here’s a few notes about the construction of the site itself:

Site Construction

It’s built on WordPress, which I love, with a theme of my own design that I have built from scratch.

I’ve tried to maintain web standards and adhere to usability and accessibility guidelines throughout, but there are still many improvements to be made. The XHTML and CSS is all valid (I hope!).

The various JavaScript effects and other bits and bobs have been put together using jQuery, which is great, really easy to use.

A list of WordPress plugins I’m currently using:

• flickrRSS – A nice, simple plugin for displaying photos from a Flickr feed.
• WP-Syntax – For code syntax highlighting.
• Google XML Sitemaps – Creates and updates search engines with my sitemap.
• Contact Form 7 – For the contact form on my contact page.

The Twitter, Flickr and Facebook icons I’ve used are by Rogie King.

Edit: I’m now using my own icons!
